- The inspections of 38 buildings across
Europe were made by experienced engineers from BIEC International Inc
and from manufacturing licensees Galvalange (Groupe Arcelor), SSAB Tunnplåt
and Corus.
- The inspectors noted age, location, slope and general
appearance of each roof, and made a general assessment of the environmental
conditions.
- The relative performance of other rooftop materials
like fasteners, gutter hangers and galvanised roof stacks was also recorded.
- Where necessary, abrasive pads were used to remove
dirt and surface rust, so the extent of corrosion could be accurately
determined. Different levels of surface contamination and oxidation
meant that some of the roofs inspected were darker in tone than others.
