Roof products in silvery metallic coated 55% Al-Zn have been awarded the ENERGY STAR ® label to indicate that they meet the solar reflection requirements of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR ® roof products program. ENERGY STAR labelled roof products can keep buildings cooler, reducing energy use, utility bills and air pollution in hot climates.
- The high solar reflectivity of the silvery metallic finish helps to decrease the roof surface temperature and the overall air temperature in hot urban areas. Cooling the ambient air temperature by even a few degrees appreciably reduces smog pollution.
- Approved and selected as a major construction material for the "Green Olympics" in Sydney, Australia, in 2000, and used extensively (most notably on the roof of the Olympic Station and in the Olympic Village).
- Silvery finish 55% Al-Zn is 100% recyclable.
